Solve : How Do I Make My Laptop Boot Faster?

Answer»

The bar the goes across the screen while it is booting, goes across 13-14 times before booting into Windows.

Here are my system SPECS:
TOSHIBA L500-550
Windows XP: Media Center Edition 2002 (SP3)
3GB RAM
500 GB HDD
Mozilla Firefox 3.6.2
AVAST anti-virus free (latest version)

Here some things I have done already:
I have removed AVG anti-virus and installed a MUCH better one called AVAST anti-virus. I highly recommend it. AVG takes up so much of your system process and SLOWS it right down especially when it's scanning.

I have uncompressed all my files and did defrag with JKDefrag v3.36 (I highly recommend that, much better then the one included with Windows, but my laptop is still slow starting up.

Everything is up to date.

My Dad took his computer down to a computer place called WolfTech and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and the guy did a BUNCH of stuff there and now the bar only goes across the screen once when it boots.

I forget what all he did though. Does the system work properly with no issues once it boots? If the answer is yes, what possible difference does it make how long it takes to boot? If the answer is no, what problems do you have?Once it boots, the system is good and the icons load pretty fast. Just mainly with when it boots, also have scanned the registry and it has many problems apparently but the registry cleaners I have used, you have to pay for them. DO NOT USE REGISTRY CLEANERS. They cause problems, not cure them. Just do yourself a favor and stay out of the registry compleley. And if the system works well leave it alone.Do all them cause more bad then good? What are you suppose to do, let them pile up. Like when you uninstall programs, there is still stuff left behind and stuff. How are you suppose to clean out the registry besides rreinstalling the OS?You are not supposed to "clean out the registry". If you uninstall an app properly it should not leave anything behind. And if it does, it certainly won't hurt anything. Just do not use registry cleaners. Period. At best they do no good. At worst they can cause a LOT of problem.

Don't look for problems. If your system is running smoothly leave it alone and enjoy it.OK then. I just do know what else makes it slow booting up.Again, what difference does it make how long it takes to boot?

To answer your question directly, it's the services and apps that are loading with your system that determine how long it takes to boot. The more processes, the longer the boot. And certain services take longer to load than others.Difference is, my laptop seems healthier, the less time it takes to boot and I don't like waiting...

I want to make sure that my laptop is working perfectly and stuff.Look - your laptop works fine. Time to move on. Quote from: WeirdAspie on April 17, 2010, 01:03:48 PM

How Do I Make My Laptop Boot Faster
Get rid of Windows and install FreeDOS. It'll boot really fast then lol.  Mornings:

Power up...make coffee...hit the bathroom...arrive at desk.

Evenings:

Power up...grab a beer or the Adult beverage of your choice...check tomorrows Weather on cable...arrive at laptop.
