Solve : HP Deskjet Printer light blinking?

Answer»

The top lights continues to blink on my HP Deskjet 612C Printer; error says I cannot print to LP1 as it is not connected.  I've tried two different 600 series deskjet printers and they both do the same thing.  I've checked all connections, etc. What is your operating system, and how did you set the printer up?Have you previously used Parallel port, i.e. LP1, devices with that computer?  Have you previously used Parallel port printers with it?  Are you using the cables that came with the printers?  Does the HP Deskjet 600 series require a BIOS setting to ECP, EPP etc.?  See this HP page: HP Photosmart Products  -  Setting the Port to ECP Mode.  Check you printer manual for info on it's requirements.I have used this printer for a long time on this computer (laptop, Inspiron 4000, win 2000) and also with various computers and have always used the par. port. The printer just stopped working and the light continues to blink.  I am unable to even realign the cartridges.  I will check on advice from Soybean.I checked out everything using Soybean's link and all seems ok; resume light is still blinking though. Can you find ANOTHER computer somewhere that you can try installing ONE or both of those printers on?  That COULD be a big help in troubleshooting this.

Also, can you borrow a known-working Parallel printer from someone to try on your computer or try connecting another Parallel device such as a scanner?

I'm wondering whether you have a faulty parallel port on your motherboard.  If so, an add-on card such as  Koutech PCI to Parallel Card Model IO-PP210 - Retail might be the solution.I hooked the printer onto another computer and the light still blinks, so it's not the port.  If a printer is moved or bumped, does it get out of ALIGNMENT somehow and needs to be realigned:-?Did you replace an ink cartridge just before this happened?  My Canon printer usually prompts me to go through an alignment procedure after replacing ink cartridges.  I think your printer should at least be doing something similar rather than not doing anything.  Do you know for sure that the ink tanks are not empty?  Are you sure the tanks are properly seated?

How long since that printer last worked?  Did you have the printer disconnected from the computer for awhile and then re-connect it?  Perhaps you should inspect your cables to make sure there are no bent pins.  I did not replace the cartridge and have replaced the power cord and cable; it was printing before I moved the printer just two days ago. Are there any access PANELS or doors closed improperly ? ?Nothing unusual :-?I've checked everything;but it's still blinking.

It may have expired.  Yes, it may have expired , but maybe it just needs to be realigned since it was moved (or at least, this is what I was told). If you cannot connect to it, a realignment would seem impossible.
