Answer» ...but I'd like to install some version on my virtual partition to play with it. What is the easiest to handle version? Free, if possible. Thank you.I suggest Ubuntu. I don't know much about it yet, but I belong to a computer users' group and they have a SIG (Special Interest Group) on Linux, and Ubuntu seems to be the favorite flavor of Linux AMONG the group.
Some resources: http://ubuntuforums.org/ http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing http://www.pcmech.com/article/installing-ubuntu-linux/ http://www.ubuntu.com/communityThank you very much. I just started the download.Fun, fun, fun....a lot of new things to learn. It's almost like seeing a computer for the first time....LOL The best thing....I don't have to look at Internet Explorer icon....heheheOnce in my life I had linux (ubuntu version) but I felt it was wierd! I don't mean it's that bad but it does have some things I'm not liking.
You have to use the "terminal" to do things? It's like you need to know how to write in "terminal" language like you do with MSDOS (aka command PROMPT or DOS)
It sort of reminded me of the early macs that my ELEMENTARY school actually used back in the day almost 10 years ago!
But I do wish windows were stable like linux seemed to be in the short life it existed in my computer while i was waiting for my copy of windows to reach me.Well, to me, it's just new learning experience, nothing more. I'm not gonna switch to Linux, but since virtual partition gives me an option to install it, and play with it, why not?yeah go ahead. I'd do it too if I were to just have a virtual partition or VMWare or some program like that VMWare is exactly what I use. I installed already XP, 2K, and 98SE on different virtual partitions. It's mostly for reference. Instead of firing up couple of other computers, I have all those OSes in one place, and they load very quickly (no extra baggage).that's cool ^_^Quote from: Broni on February 08, 2008, 05:39:32 PM VMWare is exactly what I use. Not in the installation category, nor will they load as fast - but you did mention "play with", and live cds are very HANDY for that.
VISIT http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php for a long list.
I think that in other threads, you've said that you have a fast connection to the 'net. You could d/l various different live CD distros, burn 'em, and play with them at your leisure, exploring the different look and feel of them.
Also, put www.linuxquestions.org on your list of places to visit. Like CH, it has a very active forum. Like CH, there is a LOT more to the site than just the forum.
I've got some other handy urls too, if you want them.
Wow!. Thanks Willy for the links...Now, I just need time. Where to find it?...LOLQuote from: Broni on February 10, 2008, 01:19:33 PMWow!. Thanks Willy for the links...
