Answer» I do, because it didn't happen for the first time.
Last Tuesday Windows Updates on my Vista. Everything went smooth, things were working fine, until I decided to install some program, and Comodo's regular security pop-ups were taking ages to show up during installation. What the heck? Tried to re-download, same thing. Downloaded another program. Same extreme slowness. Only after few days, I realized, that all this started just after Tuesday.
I started checking things, and surely enough, I found first culprit. One of updates TURNED on Windows Defender service, which I don't use, and I had disabled. I fixed this, but it helped only a little. Why Micro$oft does want to decide what is running on my computer?
Finally (hinted by someone else problem on this board), I uninstalled, and reinstalled Comodo, and things are back to normal. I was going nuts...
P. S. I still need to check XP installation, if it's having same problem. Ditto Ditto Ditto
I hate window updates also ,I have THREE computers using a windows and one dedicated using Linux.
I'm always having to fiddle around around with three because of updates but my Linux , NO PROBLOEMS ever.Quote from: Broni on February 18, 2008, 09:05:02 PM I started checking things, and surely enough, I found first culprit. Dunno, but I had FF as my default browser, and when I ran WU my default browser was Microsnot Internet Exploiter. I have my computer set to notify me about Windows updates but not to install them automatically. I have a red SHIELD and the implied warning that if I don't let them install it automatically, SOMETHING dire will happen to my computer. I don't want them to install GMA which they try to sneak by frequently. My last Windows Update forced me to reformat my laptop. It screwed up my computer so much there was nothing I could do...I have mine set to download automatically, but not install. I don't know why they keep re-releasing that stupid malware removal thing. Doesn't it just check for the same thing every month? ..... And screw GMA....I have notify only set to on. I generally wait a good 2 weeks after updates and check my FORUMS for problems with them before i even consider installing them...
