It MAY be a slight security risk to STOP installing updates (not a big one, but every few MONTHS its a good idea to CHECK for updates to make sure) (Yes, security updates. That is the only reason I can think of for why they would be weekly.) Somewhere, there should be a settings/preferences/options area in your menu bar. (click here to see what a menu bar looks like) Search your preferences for "Updates" and change how often it checks for them.
