Solve : Kindle 2 Screen Issue?

Answer»

Hi, my name is Horacio and I'm new to the forums. Hope you guys can HELP!

I have a Kindle 2 and its screen now shows up like this:

Original image:

A
/
B
/

Image actually displayed:

A
/
A
/

The screen itself works, but the bottom half is the repeated upper half at all times. When flipped to landscape, the left half is the repeated right half at all times.

What could be happening? I got this as a "gift" given it wasn't powering up. Managed to reset, power it up and that's what I got. I updated to the latest firmware and it remains the same. Reseated the screen flatcable 3 times, same RESULTS.

Here's a video showing how it works at the moment:

Can anyone give advice?

Thanks a lot!I'd perform a factory ( HARD ) reset on it, and if that doesnt fix it then send it back under warranty if there is a warranty.

For it to split the display into 2 halves of the screen is rather interesting. Never seen this before, and it is either an option in a config setting to be this way or it has a hardware failure.

If a config issue the hard reset will fix this, if a hardware failure it will remain this way in which it should go back under warranty.

Also its not the display that is acting up, its the CHIP that sends the display info to the LCD display. I THINK this chip is on the main board of the kindle and not on the back of the display itself.

Hopefully since you opened this you didnt void the warranty. If there are pry marks to split the case to get inside they might reject the warranty based on damaged inflicted by customer which they can decline to claim free REPAIRS for.

Hard Reset

Performing a hard reset on your Kindle 2 will wipe out all user data, so make sure to make a backup of all your files before proceding.

In order for you to Hard reset you Kindle 2, all you have to do is slide and hold the power button for 30 seconds and release it then immediately press and hold the home button and wait for until the screen flashes. If done it correctly, your kindle should reboot itself to its factory defaults.
