Solve : Last hope for this computer..?

Answer»
Please help...; I continue to GET  a blue screen with "minidump" and something about a temp file?  It HAPPENS  very often, but is not consistent, mostly when I dial-up to the internet and open 3 or 4 windows.  It also happens when not on-line, but not as often.  I have formatted my disk and reloaded XP, it will not take Service Pack 1  (possibly INSTALLED already with software?).  I have sufficient memory and anti-virus software installed.

I tried to INSTALL a different OS, but it would only take XP.  I appreciate any help, advice...

ThxPatricia....could you tell us a bit more about the p/c your trying to fix.......how old is it . what processor does it have. how much ram . You said you formatted and reinstalled XP ......did you activate it , because if you didn't you can't d/l the service paks. You also say you tried to load another operating ststem........which one , because if the H/D was blank and you had removed the previous partitions ( probably NTFS ) you should have been able to load on any operating system you wanted.
If it was win 98 or 98se it wouldnt load as it uses FAT32
Please give some more info and I am sure you will get the anwsers your looking for.

dl65  can you try this to obtain more info on your problem  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314084>My computer has a P-3 processor, 966 MHz, 248 MB ram, 20 Gig hard drive.  It’s about 2 yrs old, bought refurbished last year. As far as XP ACTIVATION, I’m using the computer right now, and I tried to load ME after removing the partitions.

I am not sure how to open/read the dmp files stored on my computer for more info....

Thx[quote I tried to load ME after removing the partitions.[/quote]

When you tried loading ME (you mean Windows ME?), did you reformat after removing partitions? XP runs on NTFS format, while ME (like 98 ) uses FAT32. Or are you trying to run a dual-boot system? Thanks for the microsoft link above on dumpcheck.exe; will run it and come back with results..
