Solve : Mac book pro HDD died? |
Answer» hey folk i have mac book pro (from 2009 i think) the HDD died completly so i have replaced it with a new 500gb hdd but i cannot get it to boot from used ive followed tutorials to say to make a boot usb on windows using trancmac. but alas it will not dectect the usb or DVD Please give the model # of the Mac Book. If you have a 2009 model then you must of gotten the original system DVD discs that shipped with every Mac made before Lion came out. If you no longer have them you can order a REPLACEMENT set from Apple for a small charge. There is no other way to reinstall OS X on your model Mac without them. Then you would need to upgrade to Snow Leopard !0.6.6 or above to get access to the Mac App store to reinstall Mountain Lion. That is unless you have a Time Machine backup made when Mountain Lion was installed. If you do have a TM backup you can boot the system from the Recovery HD system on the TM backup drive and then restore that TM backup to your new HDD.So, if that is true, you can not boot it from a USB, You must have the DVD. That is the best I can do for you. You get a white screen after replacing the hard drive? As in, no Apple LOGO or any sort of message at all when you turn it on? If so I'd check on the cable connecting the screen to the logic board in case you have knocked this loose when changing the hard drive. What about using an external monitor? Even without an OS you should still get something on the screen. What are you doing to get it to boot the DVD? On a Mac you need to hold down the option key and turn it on while continuing to hold it down, this will get you into the boot device selection screen - It won't AUTOMATICALLY try to boot a DVD just because it is in the drive like PCs often do.How would I test the battery? I've assumed its working as I holds charge and runs without neededing to be plugged in .I don't have the recovery disk that's why I was trying a USB boot if I hold option I can bring up the curser as if I was selecting a boot source but nothing shows up and the laptop does not have an external display port I've also tried booting from a Ubuntu DVD and holding C to boot from DVD that does not work i have managed to get get a grey flashing folder on screen to say no folders or os(i had formatted the HDD to the wrong fromat, ive now used gparted to format it as HFS+). some progress |
