"MAPI is an acronym for Messaging Application Programming Interface. It is a standardized set of C functions placed into a code library known as a Dynamic Link Library (DLL). The functions were ORIGINALLY designed by Microsoft, but they have received support of many third party vendors.

Having a standard library of messaging functions allows Windows application developers to take advantage of the Windows messaging subsystem, supported by default with Microsoft Mail or Microsoft Exchange. By writing to the generic MAPI interface, any Windows application can become "mail-enabled". Since MAPI standardizes the way messages are handled by mail-enabled applications, each such application does not have to include vendor-specific code for each target messaging system."

Thanks for clearing that up. Then what the heck is the Microsoft IMAPI update for CD-burners? Quote

I now understand your confusion, too many acronyms, too much alike.

Manages CD recording using Image Mastering Applications Programming Interface (IMAPI).   I turned it off, I use Nero.
Cheers for clearing that up as well.

I used to use Nero, but it simply decided to stop working. (A lot of versions of Nero) and so did Alcahol 120%.

Software crashes when trying to access the burn menu or when scanning for drives.

Ever since, I am using the Windows drag and drop burning tool. And I must say, it's ace. Quote

I use Nero v 5.5 and InCD v 4.  WinXP burning tool is Roxio.  Nero will CRASH if XP burning is not turned off.

It used to work properly without having turned off Windows XP burning.

How would I go about disabling this feature?http://www.computerforum.com/archive/index.php/t-1933.html
