FRIDAY confirmed that Windows XP users who repair the operating system cannot update their PCs with the LATEST PATCHES because of a file INCLUDED with the stealth update pushed out to machines this summer. LinkAmazing... We've had a lot of posts here from users unable to update... I guess this gets filed in Microsft's "Ooopppsss!" file... Nice find, Nathan...Stories like these only reinforce my decision to transition from Windows to Linux as my primary desktop OS. With Linux, the OS is yours to do with as you please. With Windows, you basically rent the OS from Microsoft. Microsoft licenses you "to use" THEIR operating system. I also like using my PC knowing that with Linux, I am virtually immune from all the malware that is available via the Internet. By keeping my Linux up-to-date, not logging in as root, and using a firewall, I don't even bother to install any antivirus application.
