Solve : My junk email is getting worse?

Answer»

My hotmail is set to exclusive yet I still get loads of junk email, I block them and set up subject rules to block them.

Is there a way to get rid of them as its really annoying.

I also changed my password twice in the last couple weeks.Contact Hotmail...i didn't even think it was still around.Changing your password should be a first step if you suspect someone KNOWS your password. But, that does not appear to be your issues. If so, then changing your password won't help.

Using message rules might not be very effective since spammers frequently change the address from which they send messages.

I suggest vigilantly using the unsubscribe procedure. Other folks may disagree with and say that clicking the unsubscribe link will merely result in more spam because it confirms that you have seen the sender's message to you. But, I have found that using the unsubscribe procedure helps. Once you get the volume of junk mail down, you will probably have to continue unsubscribing to unwanted mail, perhaps a few times on several days during the week. But, that, in my view, is better than living with a large volume of unwanted mail. Again, this my opinion and I won't be surprised if you receive differing views from other members.

Of course, you could also get a new email address and gradually transition your desired senders to your new address and then eventually abandon the Hotmail address. Quote

This is the best way to solve the problem. I have a yahoo e-mail that I have had since 2003 that GETS about 1000 e-mails a week 99% of them are spam. I have kept this e-mail active for registering to websites etc, if they sell or give out my e-mail address to other spammers, it doesnt affect my main e-mail address. My main e-mail address that I only use with very close friends and business contacts and I get about 20-30 e-mails a week and no spam yet knock on wood.

I also use Thunderbird with my e-mail accounts to have access to all of them in one easy to use interface as well as Thunderbird has ability to set filters and spam control to set rules to move it to a spam bin or delete it if its flagged as spam. Setting up the rules in Thunderbird isnt very easy, it have to learn what is considered spam from what is not and so it takes some time, but eventually its pretty spot on in detecting and moving spam to spam bin. I did this with my yahoo e-mail and so only e-mail from new addresses get past the filter and with most spam using dynamically created addresses for the same e-mail sent almost on a 5 times a day basis it can only be taught then by subject line to flag as spam if for example the e-mail always shows up with "Instant Rewards" for example in the text in which you can set a rule for it to flag it until they change it to "1nstant Rewards" in which it gets past the filter because of the I substituted for a 1.

I also am surprised that Hotmail e-mail is still around.

Here is a link to Mozilla Thunderbird if your interested in adding all e-mail to a single location to access as well as setting up custom spam FILTERING etc. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/Entering hotmail.com in your browser address box redirects to https://login.live.com/. This has been the case for some years now.

To add to what DaveLembke said about filters, MICROSOFT OUTLOOK will, of course, also allow use of filters, as will Windows Mail (came with Windows Vista) and Windows Live Mail (free for Windows 7 and later). Also, webmail services such as gmail, email accounts provided by your ISP, etc. also often feature a filtering mechanism. I use MailWasher to filter out all this junk. I open MailWasher first and select the mail that I want to see and download it from the server. The other stuff, I just bounce.
