Answer» Hello everyone,
I need a new laptop for college. My former one has become obsolete because now the system requirements are higher.
Minimum System requirements (as denoted by my college):
- Intel Core 2 - 4 GB RAM - 100 GB hdd
My personal system requirements:
Code: [Select]- boots quite fast (I don't want lag, especially not during lecture or labo, because I don't want to lag behind (literally and figuratively)) - no lag even after installing over 300 applications - very good, fast harddisks with good L2/L3 cache and access time (to the point: no slow disks! Again, don't want to lag behind and need fast disk acces time) - fast RAM access time (also for PROGRAMMING, I don't want lag, or at least minimal lag) - good, reliable RAM - a good form factor and no heating issues. - decent motherboard - wifi - vga - network card - optic media (DVD/CD reader/writer) - bluetooth - 4X USB - 5 to 8 hour battery life on medium usage
In short: I am look for a very decent laptop that has to be powerful as a motorcycle, fluent as oil and durable/reliable as a rock. I can't afford to lag during my high requirement-lectures.
There is a teeny itsy bitsy problem though.. I'm just a student and I don't have a lot of money.. So my budget is either credit-wise 50/75 euro a month or between 700 and 1000 euro (don't have time to save up because classes already start. Don't know, maybe I could save up and use this laptop temporarily (with only 2 GB DDR dual channel RAM).
Someone recommended me a MacBook Pro and says you can run Windows on it because the latest macs, since 6 years ago, have a standard Intel Chipset. I don't know about this because I have too much to study and I lost track of HARDWARE news etc.
Any recommendations? Deadline: 20 september
I would get something with a solid state drive and Windows 7. Having a solid state drive will bring your boot times down to less than 30 seconds (Windows 7 knows how to really take advantage of ssd), prolong your battery life (FEWER moving parts), and increase the durability of the laptop (no conventional hard drive parts to hurt).
I favor Dell computers, but some people prefer other brands. www.dell.com
Quote a good form factor
How many different forms do laptops have now days?
Just would like to say that I have found a good one, recommended by my college (should've read my info pack earlier lol):
ASUS Windows 7 Home Premium Intel Core i5 450M 4 GB RAM 500 GB hdd NVIDIA GeForce 310M 1GB
for pretty much 750 euro. ^^
Yay college. \o/
