Answer» My computer recently became very noisy, thinking it could be the fan I went inside and cleaned it, then plugged it in without cover to see if there was anything I could see wrong too. Seemed fine, but it's still very noisy. Is there anything else in my comp. that would all of the sudden start being noisy? I have an HP XE783. Other than the noise, the comp. runs the same as always. Is it safe to keep using it, what else can I check?billie_baby.....When you had the cover off and the pc running ...where does the noise seem to be coming from and what kind of a noise is it ? Is it a clunking sound ? A whinning sound ?
let us know
dl65 ok ill try to describe it...its like a refrigerator running....it winds up then idles...then winds up again and idles...not a TYPICAL whinning though more like a reving up of a motor...kinda honestly cant reall tell where the noise is coming from but it didnt seem to be that fan billie_baby......WELL it could be the fan thats on the heat sink.....when you first opened up the case was there a lot of dust on and around the fan ? What about the fan in the power supply? . The other thing is do you know if you have a variable speed fan on your processor ....it will change speed as required . Do you have any monitoring software installed that will let you monitor the fan speed and voltage to it ?

dl65 Have you tried disconnecting components with fans and other moving objects (such as Hard Disk Drives) (DONOT disconnect the CPU fan) to see what could be causing the problem?
Only disconnect components when your system is disconnected from the wall socket and take proper precautions before handling sensitive equipment. I want to thank all of u for your HELP, especially DLB and the chat helper..he sent me to the HP page concerning heat in comp, and how to take the pc apart to get to the fans, the 2 fans did need cleaning but what was causing the problem was a loose screw to one fan, (I think)after I cleaned and tightened every thing, its very quiet. ty again
