Solve : Old computer don't know username/password?

My father passed away and I have his old laptop. Problem is, I can't log on since I don't have his username and/or password. How do I bypass this and still keep his old files?Lori.clark......Sorry to hear about your Dad .
What make of laptop is it and do you know what operating system is loaded on it .........will it load the O/S at all or is the password on the bios ?

dl65  It's a dell laptop and it's a windows 98 system.    in a windows 98 system, just try hitting cancel or the little x button. It may just let you log in anyway.

If you remove the battery that is on the mobo .......for say 30 seconds or so and then replace it .......the bios password will be gone ......Just a word of caution ......you may wish to have someone thats worked on laptops do this for you ......OPENING up a laptop isnt the same as opening a DESK top .....
