Answer» snip! I loaded too much in C drive, not enough on my other (D,E,F), sections. I thought about moving things around, but this will bring registry troubles and/or worse! argh! :-/ SNIP reformat is the best solution to my overcrowded C drive. I reformat this HD, how do I deal with partitioning Snip Any and all suggestions appreciated! Thanks! GarnetBy formatting the C: you'll lose ALL your data on that partition. Your computer will/should prompt you as to whether or not you want the partition formatted, deleted, etc. What most people forget to do prior to a format is backup needed FILES like favorites, emails, and documents. Once you format.. it's all gone.
Remember Fortune aids the daring.Hi and thanks for your reply. I hope I put this so you can help me a bit further. I am trying to get a clean Hard Drive to start fresh, then INSTALL DOS and a Win OS. no worry with back ups. I've done small drives, "C" being the only drive. No need for partitions. I need to know how to re-format a HD, partition into 4- C, D, E and F drives and prep it for re-install of DOS and a Win OS. Info on partial format is interesting of course! Thanks so much, GarnetThere is a software PROGRAM CALL Partition Magic 8.0 which will allow you to do everything you want & more. It's a great program but will set you back approx £40

PartitionMagic® allows you to resize, create, move, split, merge, undelete, and CONVERT partitions quickly and easily, without harming your data. The new File Browser allows you to move files from one partition to another regardless of partition type, step-by-step wizards allow you to view changes that will be made before applying them, and DataKeeper® provides automatic file backup. Includes BootMagic® which enables you to safely run multiple operating systems on the same computer.I've had mixed results with Partition Magic. If the pc is fairly old, you should format anyway just to clean it out. A format of once a year should be mandatory (more often if you do filesharing or testing).place a boot disk in the floppy drive and at the a:\>prompt) type format c:--- so the command looks like this A:\>format c: notice the space after the word format on screen writing will appear all files will be deleted or lost answer yes and look here for partitioning hard-drives>http://www.newlogic.co.uk/kbase/fdisk/page1.htmGarnet.....If I understand you........you have I drive (8gig) partitioned as C,D,E,and F ......and you just want to reformat the partition called C. Then just follow the instructions that Merlin offered. Remember you just want to format the C portion so dont remove the existing partitions. You didnt say what operating system you will be putting on .
