i downloaded a file and it worked fine i then accidently pressed "open with" then "word" and now i cant set it back so it opens up as it's own programme again and anything else i download will also open with "word". My question is:
How do i set it so any file i download to open as its own file and not try and open with "word"?Just download the file again. What browser?i have iv tried downloadin the file 100's of times and it happens with every file i download and it happen with every browser.I have tried: Aol, internet explorer and google chromeYou may need to reset the file extension association? It sounds as if you have managed to have Word open any and all file types.

Go to: Control Panel \ FOLDER Options \ File Types tab

When you highlight a file type, a description is given and you can then change the PROGRAM you want to open that file. After you have made all the necessary changes, click APPLY \ OK.

Rosiei don't have a files tab in there
i am using windows vista if that changes anythingRight-click on the file, choose OPEN WITH, browse to what you want it to open with and make sure there's a tick in "always USE the SELECTED program......."Sorry, Josh...didn't realize Vista had dropped the File Types tab from Folder Options. Allan's method will work great for you. You say it is happening with every download? Maybe the information at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-500 will be of further help.
