Solve : Recording Tv, or satalite onto laptop?

I have been trying ever since I GOT this laptop to be able to RECORD tv programs onto my laptop. I want to be able to not only record some programs saved on my SATALITE dvr, to my laptop (so i can WATCH them whenever I want) but to also record my trip with my autistic son from my camcorder onto dvd (my laptop can burn dvd's). Can ANYONE help me?
