Answer» I have a hard drive that is being used as my main OS drive RIGHT now and it has documents on it, I'll refer to this HDD as drive1. I want to INSTALL my OS on another HDD (drive2) and then use drive1 for only documents.
Is it safe to delete just the system files from drive1, then take it out and install the OS on drive2 and then put drive1 back in afterwards? I want to do it in a "safe" way where I won't loose my documents.Sure, you can do that. You won't lose your DATA files unless you intentionally delete them or format the drive. Remember that any installed programs will have to be reinstalled.Actually there is no real reason to delete "system" files...if you simply UNHOOK the drive...install to your other drive and re-connect the original drive as a slave everything will be there and can be accessed.
You will then be booting to the new install....
