Solve : Server down time 12/2/2004?

Answer»

Unfortunately as many of you probably noticed the server and forums were down for several hours this morning. This was an unexpected outage that took way too long to get fix, and I apologize for that. I am looking into getting a new host since this long of an outage should not happen. If any of you are familiar with any hosts, I am open to any suggestions. Alan has suggested http://www.bluehost.com/ that LOOKS very promising, and I am also considering http://www.100tb.com, who is a local company. What do you do in terms of hosting at the moment (e.g. Shared Hosting, VPS, Dedicated Server).

If you are on shared hosting I'd highly recommend getting some SORT of VPS, there are a lot of small companies that offer them as well as much larger ones such as Digital Ocean and Linode. With a VPS you do have to set everything up yourself but it means that you then know how everything works, so short of the network or host behind it going down you can fix issues with stuff on the VPS (webserver/database server) yourself rather than relying on someone else to do it.Is this company near you?

They have been around a longtime.

It wouldn't be far - if Nathan lived in Manchester and not in the US Quote from: Allan on December 03, 2014, 10:23:03 AM

BC_Programmer is right, I'm in the states, Utah. But I'll still take your suggestion into consideration.

IMO some of the UK firms do as good as the USA sites and have lower prices and better support. Of course, that is very subjective.
