Solve : To improve system speed? |
Answer» I am running on Windows XP with 2.66 GHz Processor and 256 MB RAM. How can I improve the system speed?I would first add more RAM. I recommend adding a 512MB chip. This will speed up your COMPUTER significantly but 1GB of ram would be nice. You might also want to try defragmenting your drive. Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defrag It wouldn't hurt to take a look at your startup programs as well. Start --> RUN --> Type 'msconfig'. A window will pop up. Go to the 'Startup' tab and untick startup programs that are not necessary. Feel free to ask us which startup entries you can remove if you are unsure. Try those two steps and tell us if there are any system improvements.I'm new at this myself, but I use a program called Autorun...it shows everything that is running at start up & you can look up each process on the net, then shut them off if not needed. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/autoruns.mspx It is quite SIMPLE to use. Which is good for me. Good Luck. |
