Answer» I only use Linux for a server OS (the one that runs my website...) Where is your website?www.zylstrablog.co.nr Yes, I realize the homepage is a bit funny looking... I was messing around one day, and figured I would just leave it at that for now. Pointless website, really. Few hundred bots that fail to post each day. I manage two other WEBSITES, off paid hosting. They are not my websites... I just manage them. I am extremely sure that the paid host is Linux, they do have a Windows hosting option, however, it costs more, and it would be kind of pointless. Do you have a Honey Pot set up? http://www.projecthoneypot.org/home.php I put one on my blog about a week ago. It's already snagged a few Comment Spammers. What concerns me is traffic... most bots only request the text of a page, and no images, and they usually dont handle javascript. Still, the text can really add up. I understand. You may be surprised that you are visited by other "things." I've not had any comment spammer problems but within a few days of putting the Honey Pot LINKS in they had attracted a few. If for no other reason then do it for the satisfaction Only takes a few minutes to set up. Quote from: evilfantasy on December 26, 2008, 05:07:59 PM I understand. If for no other reason then do it for the satisfactionI think I can figure out the Wordpress spam blocker, however, I would rather just block every spammer from the entire site. How do I do that? Your missing the point of having the Honey Pot. Adress harvesters are going to visit no matter if they can post or not. The Honey Pot links are only visible to these entities (and you in your control panel) and they will try to harvest them. If one does get by and registered they will get trapped in the Honey Pot and you can easily identify them as well as the people running the Honey Pot. The more spam/harvesters identified, the better. Quote Project Honey Pot is the first and only distributed SYSTEM for identifying spammers and the spambots they use to scrape addresses from your website. Using the Project Honey Pot system you can install addresses that are custom-tagged to the time and IP address of a visitor to your site. If one of these addresses begins receiving email we not only can tell that the MESSAGES are spam, but also the exact moment when the address was harvested and the IP address that gathered it. I have a Word Press account but haven't used it yet. I'm thinking about switching as Blogger can be slow to load, just need to get around to it. |
