Solve : Unbootable drive... data recovery?

Answer»

Here's my PROBLEM... I have a 150 GB hard drive that had a 130 GB NTFS partition with Windows XP on it and 20 GB unpartitioned space. Recently, xp became unbootable and when i use the win xp cd to look at the partitions LIST it appears like this:

c: Partition 1 [Unknown] - 130 GB
Unpartitioned space - 20 GB

How can i recover the data from Partition 1?

I tried creating a new partition and install xp on it, but it TELLS me to format c: first.

ThanksThe only hope you have for data retrieval would be to hook up that drive as a slave in a working machine and use it to copy/save/burn your data...
Let's hope your attempts to re-partition has not wiped your data. Partitioning is just as destructive as formatting...QUOTE from: patio on January 03, 2008, 11:28:50 AM

Let's hope your attempts to re-partition has not wiped your data. Partitioning is just as destructive as formatting...

But either one can be recovered so long as no other data has been written to the disk.
