Answer» Folks,
I've started a little adventure (for me) this week and installed OSX on a PC. I'm vaguely thinking that I MAY have a place in my web development environment for a Mac (through a virtual machine or real hardware) so it's kind of an experiment.
My first impressions have been very favourable. I find the interface a little irritating when you want to "get under the hood", but having found the "command prompt" (terminal window) I'm a bit happier about that. I was just interested to know - has anyone else tried this kind of thing? How did you get on?
And can I just say that I most emphatically do NOT want a Mac vs. PC war here so please go elsewhere if you wish to Mac-/PC-/Linux-bash. I tried tiger but I uninstalled it. It seemed to work ok though but it didnt like my wireless adapter thingLinux r00lz!
Seriously, was hardware a problem? Does the system seem FASTER / slower/ about the same?
For me it seemed about the same. My hardware was personally not a problem besides my wireless adapter. Theres a list of supported hardware here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_PageCurious Rob...did you install Virtual or is this box dedicated to MAC ? ?I already have a mac!
Start->Run Simpletext
oh wait. never mind.This box is an old Fujitsu Siemens Scenic P300. 2.4GHz/512MB. It's a direct install, Pat, no VMs here. I haven't flogged it MUCH yet - my impression is that the SPEED is around XP levels, maybe slight slower feeling (with the extra eye candy and effects) but far more USER friendly for the simple stuff.
The on-board network adapter wasn't recognised, but a USB adapter did the trick.
