Solve : Windows 7 to ship minus IE in the UK? |
|
Answer» StoryThey say this ... but there was Windows XP "N" edition, which was XP MINUS WMP. I NEVER saw that for sale anywhere ... not at retailers, not on prebuilt systems, nowhere. Whether this will actually happen this time remains to be seen.If they do that how are you SUPPOSED to download something like firefox?Either grab it on a USB drive/floppy/whatever, or use FTP.that SOUNDS pointless! why wouldn't they add it?Quote from: paudashlake on JUNE 25, 2009, 09:05:52 PM that sounds pointless! why wouldn't they add it?Did you read the article? It's antitrust legislation, to do with Microsoft using its monopoly on the OS market to force other software, like IE, on users. I've argued for a while that Windows should be made more modular so not everybody has to install everything, but at the end of the day if you don't like IE, it's not difficult (even for my grandma) to switch to an alternative. If a user is really dissatisfied with software they'll find an alternative, the people staying with IE "because it comes with Windows" are in no way being forced to use it. |
