The charge on an electron is 1.6 x 10-19C. Find the number ofelectrons that will flow per second to constitute a current of 2A[Ans. 125 x 1019 electrons)

Answer»

Current is the amount of charge passing through a conductor in a particular interval of time.

So according to the definition, the formula for the current is:

I = Q/t

I = 2 A and t = 1 sec

Therefore,

Q = I*t

Q = 2*1 = 2 C

One electon consists of a charge of 1.6*10^-19 C. Then the number of electrons passing would be:

Q = n*e

n = Q/e

n = 2/(1.6*10^-19) = 1.25*10^19 electrons.
