Two conductors A and B of resistances 5 Omega and 10 Omega respectively are first joined in parallel and then in series. In each case the voltage applied is 20V. (a) Draw the circuit diagram to show the combination of these conductors in each case. (b) In which combination will the voltage across the conductors A and B be the same? (c ) In which arrangement will the current through A and B is the same? (d) Calculate the equivalent resistance for each arrangement. |
Answer» Solution :(a) Parallel arrangement is SHOWN in Fig,12.57 (a) and series in combination of Fig.12.57(B) (b) In parallel combination the voltage across conductors A and B will be same. (c ) In series arrangement the current through conductors A and B is same. (d) In parallel arrangement EQUIVALENT resistance `R_p` is given by : `1/R_p=1/5+1/10=(2+1)/10=3/10 IMPLIES R_p=10/3=3.33 OMEGA` In series arrangement equivalent resistance `R_s` is given by `R_s=5+10=15 Omega`. |
