1.

Two tubes of different area of cross section filled with a liquid are connected. The area ofcross section of small pipe is 1 m2and that of the large one is 2m2. Calculate the pressureexperienced on the large piston if a force of 10 N is applied on the small piston.

Answer»

GIVEN:-

\text{cross-sectional area of smaller pipe, }a_{1}=1m^{2}\\\\\text{cross-sectional area of <klux>LARGER</klux> pipe, }a_{2}=2m^{2}\\\\\text{Force applied on smaller piston, }F_{1}=10N

To Find:-

Pressure experienced on the larger piston.

Explanation:-

\text{Pressure on the <klux>FLUID</klux> due to force on the smaller piston, }P=\dfrac{F_{1}}{a_{1}}=\dfrac{10}{1}=10N/m^{2}

ACCORDING to Pascal's law, pressure at every point in a STATIC fluid is same.

Therefore, pressure experienced on the larger piston=pressure on the smaller piston=10N/m^{2}
