What are the differences between singly excited and doubly excited systems?

Answer»

Single EXCITED - only stator is fed with 3 ph balanced supply, the stator field starts rotating with synchronous speed INDUCING a rotating field in ROTOR. And as rotor is shorted it starts rotating in the same direction following LENZ's law.

Doubly excited - Both stator and rotor are fed with 3 ph supply.
