What is a heat engine? Define efficiency of a heat engine. |
|
Answer» Heat engine is a device that performs the conversion of heat energy to mechanical work through cyclic process. The efficiency of a heat engine is defined as the ratio of work done by the heat engine to heat absorbed per cycle. If a heat engine absorbs Q1 amount of energy from the source and dissipates Q2 amount of energy to sink, the efficiency η, is given by, \(η = \frac{Q_1-Q_2}{Q_1} = 1 - \frac{Q_2}{Q_1}.\) |
