1.

Without using Pythagoras’ theorem, show that the points A (0, 4), B(1, 2) and C(3, 3) are the vertices of a right angle triangle.

Answer»

Slope of AB = \(\frac{2-4}{1-0}\) = -2, Slope of BC = \(\frac{3-2}{3-1}\) = \(\frac{1}{2}\)

Slope of AC = \(\frac{3-4}{3-0}\) = \(-\frac{1}{3}\)

Slope of AB × Slope of BC = -2 x \(\frac{1}{2}\) = -1

∴ AB ⊥ BC, i.e, ∠B = 90º ⇒ ΔABC is a right angled.
