Question : AmphibolicPathwayis seen in respiration. |
| Answer» Solution :Glucose is the formed substance for RESPIRATION. Moreover in some cases lipid and proteins are also usedas respiratorysubstrate. Lipid is BROKEN down into fatty acid and glycerol. Fatty acidbe degraded to acetyl CoAand glycerol gets converted into PGAL and enters respiratory pathway. But whenthe organismsneed to synthesize fatty acids, acetyl CoA would be withdrawn formthe respiratory pathway. Hence the respiratory pathway comes into picture bothduring breakdownand synthesis of fattyacid. Similarly in BREAKINGDOWN and SYNTHESISOF proteinrespiratory pathways areused. Hence anabolism and catabolism both are included in thispathway. So it is calledamphibolic pathway. | |

Question : Some varieties of wheat are known as spring wheat while others are called winter wheat. Former variety is sown and planted in spring and is harvested by the end of the same season. However, winter varieties, if planted in spring, fail to flower or produce mature grains within a span of a flowering season. Explain, why? |
|
Answer» Solution :Some annual food plants such as wheat do not flower, unless they experience a low temperature. They remain vegetative during spring (warm period) but grow further to bear flowers and fruits after receiving low temperature (in winter). The low temperature in winter PREVENTS precocious REPRODUCTIVE development in autumn, THUS enabling the plant to reach vegetative maturity before reproductive phase. Thus, when spring varieties are planted in spring, they flower and bear fruits prior to the end of growing season. But, if the winter varieties are planted in spring, they fail to flower and produce mature grains before the end of growing season, as they COULD not perceive low temperature of winter. |

Question : Some of these terms/chemicals are associated with the C_(4) cycle. Explain. Hatch slack pathway Calvin cycle (c ) PEP carboxylase (d) Bundlesheath cells |
|
Answer» Solution :Hatch - slack pathway : The formatio of glucose occurs in a different way in `C_(4)` pathway than `C_(3)` pathway. That was explained by two scientists M.D. Hatch and C.R. Slack. So its is called Hatch - Slack pathway. Calvin cycle : This PROCESS occur in bundle sheath cells where glucose is formed by fixation of `CO_(2)`. (c )PEP Carboxylase : The enzyme located in MESOPHYLL cells of `C_(4)` PLANTS that fixes `CO_(2)` and forms oxaloacetic acid fused with 4C. (d) Cell of bundle sheath : These are special type of around vascular bundles. That are located in veins of monocots. They do possess chloroplasts. Here `C_(3)` pathway becomes granaless and Glucose is formed. |

Question : Some of the properties of tissues are not the constituents of its cells. Give three examples to support the statement. |
|
Answer» Solution :It is indeed true that some of the proporties of tissues are not the constituents of its cells. Following three examples SUPPORT this statement. A muscle tissue is capable of CONSTRUCTION but all its constituent cells may not be capable of during so. The SKELETAL SYSTEM is composed of bones and cartilage. A bone is hard and lightweight while cartilage is soft. But they possess different constituents. Blood is capable of carrying oxygen but WBCs are not capable of doing inspite of being the constituents of blood. |
