(ii) Lyophobic sols : Sols in which the colloidal particles do not have affinity for the solvent are called lyophobic sols. Colloidal solutions of such substances cannot be prepared just by mixing the DISPERSED phase and dispersion MEDIUM. Sols of metals and their sulphides are examples of this class of sols. (iii) Emulsions : These are liquid-liquid colloidal systems. If a mixture of two IMMISCIBLE or partially miscible liquids is shaken, a coarse dispersion of one liquid in the other is obtained which is called emulsion. We have oil in water emulsions like MILK and vanishing cream and water in oil emulsions like butter and cream.
