When the old woman started plaving flute the three goats began to dance to the tune. Sindhu was very much happy to see this performance. Earlier he had doubts about the old woman’s claims that they would bring fortune to him some day. But now he thought that even if they don’t bring him fortune, they will certainly help him earn money by entertaining the village folk. Having argued in this way in his own mind he accepted the old woman’s offer.

जब बूढ़ी महिला ने बांसुरी बजाना शुरू किया तो बकरे इसकी धुन पर नाचने लगे। सिन्धु इस प्रस्तुति को देखकर बहुत खुश था। पहले उसको महिला के इन दावों पर संदेह था कि वे एक दिन उसके लिये धनदौलत लाएंगे। लेकिन अब उसने सोचा कि अगर वे उसके लिये धन-दौलत न भी लाएँ तो भी वे निश्चित रूप से गाँव वालों का मनोरंजन करके थोड़ा-बहुत पैसा कमा कर उसकी मदद जरूर करेंगे। इस तरह अपने मन में तर्क देने के पश्चात् उसने उस वृद्ध महिला का प्रस्ताव स्वीकार कर लिया।

Mrs Fitzgerald plays a very important role in the play. She is introduced as a fortune teller and the next-door neighbour of the Pearsons. It is through the initial conversation between her and Mrs Pearson that we come to know the problems that Mrs Pearson faces. Mrs Fitzgerald analyses the situation quite objectively and becomes the playwright’s mouthpiece. She also suggests life ways and methods of tackling the situation. Since Mrs Pearson does not have the guts to stand for her right, Mrs Fitzgerald suggests a novel approach – exchange of personalities.

Now as Mrs Pearson, with the personality Mrs Fitzgerald, she puts the plan of reformation in action. She smokes, drinks and plays cards. All this is unusual for the family. She further shocks them by being tough with them in word and action. She asks them to look after themselves. She clearly tells them that she has already worked for more than eight hours that day. She tells them plainly how they behave at home and workplace.

She is equally blunt with Mr George Pearson, who goes away every evening to club, leaving his wife alone at home. She reveals to him how the people at club make a fun of him. In short, she makes them realise their responsibility towards the mother. In the end, she performs the exchange of personalities once again. Thus she is the mainspring of initial action, climax and denouement.

Mrs Pearson is the main character in the play ‘Mother’s Day. She is a pleasant but worried-looking woman in her forties. She speaks in a light, flurried sort of tone, with a touch of suburban cockney. She loves her husband and children very much. and runs after them all the time. Her excessive love and care have spoilt them and they have become thoughtless and selfish.

She feels neglected and lonely but lacks courage to discuss things with them. Perhaps she hates any unpleasantness as well. She is not willing to act as a tough mom as she is nervous and fluttering by nature.

She is so tender-hearted that she is shocked to see the rough treatment meted out to her children. She decides to change back fo her original personality to deal with her family herself. She is indeed a loving and affectionate mother and a devoted wife.

Art is all around us; it surrounds us. It provides us with a deeper understanding of our own emotions and those of others. It makes us more sensitive, softer and gentler. The writer says that he had a very simple upbringing in a lower middle-class family which did not have even basic amenities like a fan, refrigerator, etc. Even so, it was rich culturally because various poets, writers and musicians used to visit their home and there would be hours of discussions about music, literature, paintings, sculptures, etc. Famous writers, painters and musicians were discussed and this made the writer love the arts. He states that arts, music and literature enrich our lives and put meaning into our existence.

After working for software companies for many years, the writer wanted to return to his first love, i.e. reading and writing on various subjects concerning human life and existence. Hundreds came out of depression and more than a dozen gave up thoughts of committing suicide and decided to start all afresh. He came to know what real brilliance meant, and where he stood with regard to it.

Yes, today team work is very important in every sphere, whether it is in games or at work. Every individual has different talents and these separate talents come together when one is in a team. For example, in cricket, one person may be a good bowler, another a good batsman, a third a good fielder, etc. When all these people come together and play the game as a team, it leads to success. In an office too, only when we work in a team and contribute our respective talents can we complete projects.

Passion is certainly more important than wealth. Wealth can give the luxuries of life, but it cannot give mental peace and satisfaction. This can only be gained by having an interest in what we do, or in simple words, by loving our jobs. Hence, when one chooses a career, it is more important to choose one which we love rather than one which pays more.

When all the disappointed suitors were crying loudly against the success of Sindhu in ‘Swayamvar”, he explained them in firm and calm voice that it was the triumph of faith, love and patience. Actually, Sindhu had full faith in the old woman’s promise that the three dancing goats would bring good fortune to him and his family. The words of the old woman echoed in his mind even at the time of ‘Swayamvar’, which gave him confidence and he revealed the truth in the crowd of the royal suitors and won the hand of the girl.

जब सभी निराश विवाहेच्छुक प्रतिभागी स्वयंवर में सिन्धु की सफलता के खिलाफ चिल्ला रहे थे तब सिन्धु ने उन्हें दृढ़ और शान्त स्वर में समझाया कि यह विश्वास, प्रेम और धैर्य की जीत थी । वास्तव में, सिन्धु को बूढी महिला के इस वादे में पूरा विश्वास था कि वे तीन नाचने वाले बकरे एक दिन उसके एवं उसके परिवार के लिये सौभाग्य लेकर आएंगे। उस वृद्ध महिला के शब्द उसके दिमाग में स्वयंवर के समय भी गूंज रहे थे जिसने उसे आत्मविश्वास दिलाया और उसने शाही विवाहेच्छुक प्रतिभागियों की भीड़ में भी सत्य को उजागर कर दिया और लड़की का हाथ जीत लिया।
