Briefly explain the Selective Dissemination of Information Services (SDI)?

Answer»

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) is a highly personalized service. It is a method of supplying each user or a group of users with references of documents or abstracts relating to their pre-defined areas of interest selected from documents published recently/received during the period in question.

This service saves the user the effort and time of having to scan through a number of publications, and to choose the documents of interest to him. The basic concept behind SDI is the matching of information/documents with the profile of each user or group of users with same interest.

A user profile and document profile are two important components of the SDI service. Then the matching items are brought to the attention of the user. The same activity can be performed effectively with the help of a computer.

During the process of SDI, the user profile which comprises of a set of key words organised as meticulously as the system permits, describe the subject of interest, in accordance with the keywords that appear on the documents. A document is selected when two key words coincide. In an automated environment, once a search profile of the user is created and saved, relevant information is sent to the researcher automatically (and the selected databases/catalogues are updated).

In a garden there are two plants. One plant is \( 44 \mathrm{~cm} \) tall and the other is \( 80 \mathrm{~cm} \) tall. The first. plant grows \( 3 \mathrm{~cm} \) in every 2 months and the second \( 5 \mathrm{~cm} \) in every 6 months. The number of months after which the two plants will have equal height is .

Answer»

First plant height = 44 cm and it grows 3 cm in every 2 months.

\(\therefore\) Common difference = 3/2

After 1st month plant height = 44 + 3/2 = (88 + 3)/2 = 91/2

After nth month first plant height

 = 91/2 + (n - 1)3/2.

Second plant height  = 80 cm and it grows 5cm in every 6 months.

 \(\therefore\) Common difference = 5/6

After 1st month plant height = 80 + 5/6 = 485/6

After nth month second plant height

= 485/6 + (n - 1)5/6

Let both plants have equal height after n month.

Therefore, 91/2 + (n -1) 3/2 = 485/6 + (n - 1) 5/6

⇒ (n -1) (3/2 - 5/6) = 485/6 - 91/2 = (485-273)/6 = 212/6

⇒ (n –1)=212/6 x 6/(9 - 5) = 212/4 = 53

⇒ n = 53 + 1 = 54

\(\therefore\)  After 54th month both plants will have equal height.

Answer»
A(10,X)______________10______________B(2,-3)

(10-2)² + (x+3)²=10²

8² + x²+9+6x=10²

x²+6x+64+9=100

x²+6x+73-100=0

x²+6x-27=0

x²+9x-3x-27=0

x(x+9)-3(x+9)=0

(x+9) (x-3)=0

x+9=0  ||  x-3=0

x=-9  ||  x=3

so,cordinates of A are either (10,-9) or (10,3)
it can y=-9 and y=3 using distance formula
