Article on harmful effects of polythene bag.

Answer»

Plastic bags are the bags made of thin flexible, plastic material especially to handle supplies from a nearby grocery store or a vegetable shop. Plastic bags have become an integral part of our life finding its way into our houses, offices, hospitals and every other places of human habitation. Plastic bags pose a threat to the environment as well as life on the planet Earth.

Plastic bags are bags made up of thin, flexible plastic material which is non bio degradable, meaning that it does not get dissolved by natural process and can remain in its present state for thousands of years. Being non bio degradable it poses a threat to the environment, marine life and health of humans and animals and also result in depletion of natural resources.

Plastic bags are non-degradable meaning it is not broken down by natural processes. Dumped out of our houses and other places of activity, plastic bags slowly find their way into the environment and pollute as well as deplete our natural resources. Mounts of garbage consisting mainly of disposed plastic bags of various sizes can be seen in any city and pose a threat to the environment as well as health of the living beings. Such plastic bags get mixed with the soil, badly affecting the yield of farm produces and result in the premature decay of plants and other organisms affecting the environment.

Usage of plastic bags in our everyday life apart from being a threat to the environment, it is also a threat to the health and life of Humans and animals. We must restrain from the use of plastic bags for the sake of planet and instead use paper bags or bags made of bio degradable material. Steps must be taken for proper segregation and disposal of plastic bags and their recycling.

Write an article on the harmful effect of polythene in 100 words.

Answer»

Harmful Effect Of Polythene

Have you ever seen a rubbish dump where animals, especially cows are eating garbage? In the process of eating food waste, they swallow materials like polythene bags and wrappers of food. The plastic material chokes the respiratory system of these animals and can cause their death. The polybags carelessly are thrown here and there are responsible for clogging the drains, too. Sometimes, we are very careless and throw the wrappers of chips, biscuits etc., here and there.
So,

  • Do not throw plastic bags in the drains or on the road.
  • Take a cotton carry-bag or a jute bag while going for shopping.
  • Use a steel lunch-box instead of a plastic one.

We should follow the example of Kannor village of Kerala where cloth-bags or jute-bags are used in place of plastic bags according to a report published in ‘Hindustan’ newspaper of 29-4-2017.

#Increased serum levels of which of the following may be associated with a decreased risk of atherosclerosis?-Very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL)-Low-density lipoproteins (LDL)-Intermediate - density lipoproteins (IDL)-High-density lipoproteins (HDL)- Cholesterol

Answer»
  • Blood levels of HDL are inversely related to risk of coronary artery disease, and it was thought that low HDL levels represented an independent risk factor.
  • This led to a concerted effort to identify treatments that might prevent CAD by raising HDL concentrations.
  • This area has been very controversial, but recent evidence suggests that although low HDL is inversely correlated with risk of CAD, the relationship is not causal.
  • In other words, low HDL levels are a marker for other factors that cause progression of CAD. Several pieces of evidence suggest this.
  • Genetic variants that are associated with high HDL levels are not consistently associated with a reduced risk of CAD.
  • In fact, the same study that found that SNPs associated with high LDL were consistently associated with increased risk failed to show that SNPs associated with HDL had any relationship to risk of CAD.
  • These authors also reported that a genetic variant that specifically and substantially increases plasma HDL cholesterol, did not reduce risk of myocardial infarction.
  • Drugs that raise HDL levels do not reduce the risk of CAD.
