District Level Girls’ Kabaddi Tournament

The district level girls’ Kabaddi tournament was held on the ground of the Govt Girls’ Senior Secondary School of the city. It was inaugurated by the Education Minister. Thirty teams from different schools participated in this tournament. Many exciting matches were played. All the girls were tall, well-built, lively and gay. The players played well. There was a big crowd of students. Some of the players became desperate and rash in this tournament but they were soon warned and checked. The tournament lasted for five days during which many interesting matches were played. The first prize went in favour of the most honest team.

Man Dumps Children into Well, Kills Self

On Friday afternoon, Ratan Ram dumped both of his children, one by one, into the well. They died of drowning. Then, he too jumped into the well.
Later, when the villagers did not see him around for a long time, they started searching for him. After tracing the bodies, the villagers informed the police. Sources said that Ratan Ram was reportedly frustrated due to the prolonged illness of his wife and, therefore, decided to kill the children and himself. Locals said they were shocked that Ratan Ram could take such an extreme step.
SHO, Phalana, Chandra Shekhar said that the bodies were taken out with the help of the villagers. After the postmortem, the bodies were handed over to the relatives.

शुक्रवार दोपहर को, रतन राम ने अपने दोनों बच्चों को एक-एक करके कुएँ में डुबो दिया। वे दोनों (बच्चे) डूबकर मर गये। तब वह (रतनराम) भी कुएँ में कूद गया। बाद में, जब गाँव वालों ने उसे (रतनराम को) बहुत देर से अपने आस-पास नहीं देखा तो, उन्होंने (गाँव वाले) उसे (रतनराम) खोजना शुरू किया। उन सभी के मृत शवों (रतनराम तथा बच्चों) को पाने के बाद गाँव वालों ने पुलिस को सूचित किया। एक जानकारी के अनुसार रतनराम अपनी पत्नी की लम्बी बीमारी के कारण बहुत निराश था और इसलिए खुद को और बच्चों को मार देने (हत्या कर देने) का निश्चय किया। स्थानीय लोगों ने कहा कि वे इस बात से स्तब्ध थे कि रतनराम इस प्रकार का कठोर निर्णय (फैसला) ले सका। फालना के S.H.O., चन्द्रशेखर ने कहा कि गाँव वालों की सहायता से शवों को निकाल लिया गया। डाक्टरी परीक्षण के बाद उनके शवों को (रतन राम तथा बच्चों के शवों को) सम्बन्धियों को सुपुर्द कर दिया गया।

Tough time for touts: 12 held for harassing tourists in city

Haridwar: Police and the tourist department got hard with touts who harass tourists in the city. Police arrested over a dozen of them on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Tourist Assistance Force (TAF) officials, a campaign is being carried out against city touts.

“We have arrested 12 touts from different areas of the city while they were harassing foreign tourists,” an official said.

“There are a lot of habitual offenders’ among touts. They are being identified and a database is being prepared,” the officer said. TAF will also make sure the touts are released only on certified bonds. In case of repeated violation, they could be booked under more punitive laws. Currently, there are 50 ex-servicemen working for TAF. They are deputed at tourist spots, but they often find themselves at the receiving end of the touts. Nothing was done against attackers in instances when hawkers attacked them.

“Earlier, TAF used to round up the touts and handed them over to the police. They were then booked under Section 151 of CRPC but were released the very next day. Now, they won’t be able to get away with mild punishment anymore,” the official added.
