New broadway class 6 chapter 3 the refugees and refugees blues question and answers |
Answer» Answer: Refugee Blues by W H Auden Say this CITY has ten million souls, Some are living in mansions, some are living in holes: YET there's no place for us, my dear, yet there's no place for us. Once we had a country and we thought it fair, Look in the atlas and you'll find it there: We cannot go there now, my dear, we cannot go there now. In the village churchyard there grows an OLD yew, Every spring it blossoms anew; Old passports can't do that, my dear, old passports can't do that. The consul banged the table and said: 'If you've got no passport, you're officially dead'; But we are still alive, my dear, but we are still alive. |

Her professor tried to persuade her(infinitive |
Answer» Answer: English learners have difficulty with gerunds and infinitives. A gerund is the –ing form of a verb that functions the same as a noun. For example, “Running is fun.” In this sentence, “running” is the gerund. It acts just like a noun. The infinitive form of a verb appears either as the basic form (with no marking) or with the word “to.” For example, you can say “I might run to the store” or “I like to run.” In this sentence, “to run” is the infinitive. It is difficult for English learners to know whether to use a gerund or an infinitive after a verb. Here’s an example. Which sentence is correct? Sentence one: I suggested going to dinner. Sentence two: I suggested to go to dinner. Sentence one, with the gerund, is correct. “I suggested going to dinner.” Why? You can only use a gerund after the verb “SUGGEST.” Let’s take the word “like.” You can say “I like" running” or “I like to run.” Both sentences have the same meaning. You can use either a gerund or an infinitive after “like.” Now let’s try “enjoy.” We can say, “I enjoy running.” But we cannot say, “I enjoy to run.” Why? Only a gerund can FOLLOW the verb “enjoy.” Are you confused yet? You’re not alone. Gerunds and infinitives confuse even very advanced English learners. Basically, some verbs are followed by gerunds, some verbs are followed by infinitives, and some verbs can be followed by gerunds or infinitives. NATIVE speakers do not think about the difference. But English learners have to memorize the hundreds of different verb combinations. Explanation: I hope it will be help you |

Answer» Answer: The Swiss-French urban planner Le Corbusier had planned CHANDIGARH for half a million Partition-uprooted people. Explanation: Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (6 October 1887 – 27 August 1965), known as Le Corbusier (UK: /lə kɔːrˈbjuːzieɪ/ lə kor-BEW-zee-ay,[2] US: /lə ˌkɔːrbuːˈzjeɪ, -ˈsjeɪ/ lə KOR-boo-ZYAY, -SYAY,[3][4] French: [lə kɔʁbyzje]), was a Swiss-French architect, designer, PAINTER, urban planner, writer, and one of the pioneers of what is now regarded as modern architecture. He was BORN in Switzerland and became a French citizen in 1930. His career spanned five decades, and he designed buildings in Europe, Japan, India, and North and South America. Dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities, Le Corbusier was influential in urban planning, and was a founding member of the Congrès International d'Architecture Moderne (CIAM). Le Corbusier prepared the master plan for the city of Chandigarh in India, and contributed specific designs for several buildings there, especially the government buildings. On 17 July 2016, seventeen projects by Le Corbusier in seven countries were inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier, an OUTSTANDING Contribution to the Modern Movement.[5] Le Corbusier remains a controversial figure. Some of his urban planning ideas have been criticized for their indifference to pre-existing cultural sites, societal EXPRESSION and equity, and his ties with fascism, antisemitism and the dictator Benito Mussolini have resulted in some continuing contention.[6][7][8] |
