Conclusion for triangles maths project

Answer»

Answer:

In my triangles project I classified EIGHT different types of food items as different types of triangles. There four types of triangles; RIGHT, scalene, equilateral, and ISOSCELES. I tested four of my predictions by using math. I predicted that the cheese was a right triangle and I was correct. For a triangle to be a right angle it has to have hypotenuse and a LEG while also having a 90 degree angle. The cheese fulfilled all of those requirements as it had a hypotenuse, leg, and had a 90 degree angle. For the scalene triangle I said a piece of Kroger bread was a scalene triangle because when you looked at it, it looked as though no sides or angles were congruent with each other. I was right on that fact as I proved the triangle scalene. I looked at all of the measurements of each side and none of them were the same. None of the angles were congruent either proving that the triangle is scalene. For the equilateral triangle I chose a wheat cracker and I was wrong. I chose the wheat cracker because all of the sides and angles looked the same but I was wrong. The sides were off by a little bit but the angles were correct. EVEN though my angles were all congruent for it to be an equilateral triangle everything has to be the same. For the isosceles I chose cheese I found at the store because two of the sides and angles looked congruent. For it to be an isosceles triangle 2 of the sides have to be the same. When I did the math it didn’t work out as it was off on the measurements. This project showed me how the eye is not always right but also taught me that there are a lot of triangles in everyday life.

Ravi distributed the chocol...

MATHS

Ravi distributed the chocolates with him equally between Rajesh and Suresh. He was left with a chocolate. Rajesh distributed his share equally among three of his friends and was also left with a chocolate. One of the three distributed his share equally among four of his friends and was left with no chocolate. Which of the following could be the number of chocolates that Rajesh RECEIVED?

HARD

Share

Study later

ANSWER

Let the no. of chocolates Rajesh GOT be x

∴ Total no. of chocolates =2x+1

Rajesh distributed his share equally among three of his friends and was also left with a chocolate.

∴(x−1) can be divided into 3 equal parts (ASSUMED p)

∴x=3p+1 ....... (i)

As it is given that, one of the three distributed his share equally among four of his friends and was left with no chocolate.

∴p can be divided into 4 equal parts (assumed a)

∴p=4a

Substituting the VALUE of p in eq (i), we get

x=3×4a+1

⇒x=12a+1

⇒(x−1)=12a ......... (ii)

∴(x−1) can be divided into 12 equal parts.

Therefore, 49 is the only value of x among given options which clearly defines equation (ii)

Example 1: Prove that in two concentric circles,the chord of the larger circle, which touches thesmaller circle, is bisected at the point of contact.

Answer»

Question :

PROVE that in two concentric circles the chord of the lager circle, which touches the SMALLER circle, is bisected by it at the point of contact .

ANSWER

Given : -

2 concentric circles with 'O' as the common circle for both the circles.

AB is the chord of the lager circle.

Required to prove : -

AC = BC

Congruency criteria used : -

Side,Side,Angle (S,S,A) congruency criteria

Construction : -

Before solving this question we need to perform some bit of constructions !

1. Join O to C . 'C' is a point of contact of smaller circle with the chord AB

2. Join A to O and B to O

3. While joining O to C MAKE sure it is perpendicular to AB (chord)

PROOF : -

Consider ∆AOC & ∆BOC

In ∆AOC & ∆BOC

→ OC = OC (side)

[ Reason : Common side ]

→ OA = OB (side)

[ Reason : In a circle, all radii are equal ]

→ ∠ACO = ∠BCO (angle)

[ Reason : AB is perpendicular to OC ]

From the above we can conclude that;

By using SSA congruency criteria

∆ AOC ≅ ∆BOC

This implies;

AC = BC ( side )

[ Reason : Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles (CPCT)]

Therefore,

The Chord AB is bisected by the point 'C' which is the point of the contact .

HENCE Proved !

41.

Prove that (1+ cos a )/(1-cos a ) = ((cosec a + cot a ))^2

Answer»

To PROVE:

\Longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{1 + cosA}{1 - cosA} = \big\{cosecA + cotA\big\}^2

SOLUTION:

Taking the LHS we get:

\Longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{1 + cosA}{1 - cosA}

Let's multiply both the numerator and DENOMINATOR by the conjugate of 1 - cosA which is 1 + cosA.

\Longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{1 + cosA}{1 - cosA} \ \times \ \dfrac{1 + cosA}{1 + cosA}

\Longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{\Big\{1 + cosA\Big\}\Big\{1 + cosA\Big\}}{\Big\{1 - cosA\Big\} \Big\{1 + cosA\Big\}}

Using the below algebraic identities we get:

  • (a + B) (a + b) = (a + b)²
  • (a + b) (a - b) = a² - b²

\Longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{\Big\{1 + cosA\Big\}^2}{\Big\{1\Big\}^2 - \Big\{cosA\Big\}^2}

Using 1 - cos²A = sin²A we get;

\Longrightarrow \sf \dfrac{\Big\{1 + cosA\Big\}^2}{\Big\{sinA\Big\}^2}

\Longrightarrow \sf \Bigg\{\dfrac{1 + cosA}{sinA}\Bigg\}^2

\Longrightarrow \sf \Bigg\{\dfrac{1}{sinA} + \dfrac{cosA}{sinA}\Bigg\}^2

Using the below trigonometric ratios we get;

  • 1/sinA = cosecA
  • cosA/sinA = cotA

\Longrightarrow \sf \big\{ cosecA + cotA \big\}^2

LHS = RHS

Hence PROVED.
