Are societies in the world becoming more similar humogeneous or more different heterogeneous |
|
Answer» ong>Explanation: My impression is that they are becoming more similar. This is due to greater mobility and also the internet…. even Quora! People from around the world are in MUCH more contact than they used to be. So, societal values are becoming more similar, overall see e.g. the spread of legalising abortion and gay marriage, women becoming presidents etc in various countries, also spread of globalisation/capitalism (including brands spreading around the world e.g. McDonalds and also Eastern European countries becoming CAPITALIST and starting to do business with the rest of the world, which inevitably makes countries more similar). Also, if you look at statistics like child mortality rates, education levels, participation of women in society etc, these tend to show positive trends whereby infants deaths and such are getting lower even in the least developed societies. I can think of a few instances where this trend is not the case THOUGH. Islamic fundamentalism has taken root in a few countries and those countries have become less similar from the other countries, where secular democracy is the model. Also, Donald Trump’s views and approaches are quite different to those of the majority of Western countries in various notable ways, though whether this represents a real shift in the population away from the attitudes of other countries is hard to say. Overall though, I think DEFINITELY more similar, due in large part to global mobility and the internet, but also things like unions between countries and pressure on countries to conform to standards elsewhere (e.g. allowing women to DRIVE in Saudi Arabia, improving worker safety in Bangladesh, legalising abortion in Eire, among many others). |
