How wanda treted by her classmates in the school

Answer»

The Hundred Dresses is a STORY based on the true experiences of the author about a girl who is teased by her classmates because she is different. Wanda Petronski, a girl who comes from the POOR part of town, is the only student in her class with a 'funny' Polish name. She is ALWAYS quiet and she always wears the same faded blue dress to school everyday, although she claims she has a hundred dresses at home "all lined up in her close."

Maddie KNOWS that she should have stood up to her friends and defended Wanda. She feels guilty for not speaking up, for standing by and allowing her friends to tease Wanda.

Maddie and her friends later discover that Wanda is a very talented artist, and that her drawing of one hundred beautiful dresses has won the school's art contest. The girls realize that they misjudged Wanda, and feel incredibly guilty for never believing her stories of her "one hundred dresses." In the end, the girls write a letter to Wanda, hoping to make amends, and they are pleasantly SURPRISED by her willingness to forgive.

Appreciation Of The Poem Where The Mind Is Without Fear

Answer»

HEY MATE
.
Your answer ⬇
.
In "Where The Mind Is Without Fear" (also known as "Gitanjali 35"), Tagore imagines a place wherein people are allowed to thrive, free from the yoke of fear and stratification. The imagery oscillates between hopeful and bleak, as Tagore envisions the future while realistically facing the present. For instance, the speaker believes in the existence of the "clear stream of reason" but acknowledges that it currently veers into the "dreary desert sand of dead habit." Tagore's metaphors sketch the disparity between the present time and place and a future where people are truly free.

Other elements of the poem besides imagery also reflect this in-between feeling, this liminal mood of being aware of the present and trying to envision a better future. The first six lines of the poem end in semi-colons, punctuation which indicates both a stop and a continuation—a complex feeling of staying put yet MOVING forward.

The last two lines, on the other hand, resound with hope. There is a comma at the end of the seventh line, gracefully pushing the eye to the final line, where the speaker ends definitively with a period: "Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake." It is a hope, a prayer, and a call to action for the reader to "awaken" and allow our mind to be "led forward." We also know this line is the true essence of the speaker's meaning, the real point of the poem, because of how it begins. The last line begins with "Into," whereas every single other line begins with the word "Where." The last line is hereby made more distinct, and we can identify it as the meaning on which the poet wishes our thoughts to land.

(It's also important to know that Tagore was the architect of international education METHODS, and even at one time had his own experimental school. His BELIEF in the UNIFYING POWER of education certainly comes through in his description of a place "Where knowledge is free / Where the world has not been broken up into fragments / By narrow domestic walls.")

Summary of the poem ruins of a great house by derek walcott

Answer»

Derek Walcott’s poem “Ruins of a Great House” starts with the description of a ruined colonial mansion. He described the mansion by using such metaphors which show the decay and death of that place that once used to be a lively place. Trees and plants used to GROW their in the past but now they have become LIFELESS. These are the remnants of that TIME when this house was used as a plantation for the business of slavery in 19th century.

The speaker of the poem is reminded of how Rudyard Kipling in his writings talked about the decline of British Empire and justified the subjugation of the colonized people by quoting references from Bible. He compares the era of colonization with a stinking lime that reeked like deadly slave ships.

The stench of those times is still there and the speaker feels it although the slaveholders have died long ago. He recalls words of John Donne that death of a single man diminished EVERYONE who’s living. His lines fill up the speaker with compassion more than anger and he looks around at the ruins of the house which remind him now of not only those slaves but the death of their masters too.

Nepal’s miracle eye doctor Dr Sanduk Ruit inspires Australia Awards alumni in Kathmandu

Posted: 8 May 2019

Australia Global Alumni

“Life is so short and there are many more things to achieve, this thought keeps me motivated”, were the words of Dr Sanduk Ruit during an inspiring address at an Australia Awards alumni event in Kathmandu recently. Over 100 Australia Awards alumni from Nepal as well as 15 from other countries in South and West Asia, ATTENDED the event in April 2019, organised to encourage alumni to continue to make a DIFFERENCE through their work.

Known as Nepal’s miracle eye doctor Dr Sanduk Ruit, an eminent eye-surgeon, has restored the sight of more than 120,000 people across Nepal and beyond. Early in his career, through his friendship and collaboration, he was inspired by Dr Fred Hollows, a trailblazing Australian eye-surgeon with whom he shared the vision that all people with treatable blindness have the right to restored eyesight.

While in Australia, Dr Ruit learned about a cataract micro-surgery technique using implanted intraocular lenses. He wanted to take this technique and help the poorest of the poor. He is one of the founders of the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology and the co-founder of Himalayan Cataract Project. Dr Ruit is widely known for his extraordinary contribution in introducing low-cost and effective intraocular lenses and making it affordable and available even to the poorest people for small incision cataract surgery.

Dr Ruit has received several international awards including the prestigious Padma Shri (2018, India), the Ramon Magsaysay (2006, Phillippines), an ORDER of Australia (2007), a National Order of Merit of Bhutan (2015) and many more. Two books, Second Suns (2013) and The Barefoot Surgeon (2018) feature his extraordinary journey of curing preventable blindness.

Addressing the alumni, Dr Ruit said that it was important to have a dream but it is equally important to have a good team to realise the dream. He encouraged alumni to continue to foster partnerships that they formed in Australia and beyond. Dr Ruit himself mentioned the importance of his partnerships at Tilganga Hospital in Nepal but also other partnerships internationally, such as his partnership with Dr Fred Hallows. These partnerships have been instrumental in the restoration of eyesight for hundreds of thousands of people.

Emphasising the need to share your knowledge with others, Dr Ruit shared how proud he was that at the Tilganga Hospital there are many doctors who he trained. He claimed, humbly, that they are now “better eye surgeons” than himself.

HE Peter BUDD, Australian Ambassador to Nepal in his closing remarks expressed his pride in claiming Dr Ruit as one of Australia’s global alumni.
