Essay on holi in 500 words

Answer»

HOLI.......::******;;!!!!

Holi is an important festival of the Hindus. It is celebrated all over the country. It is a festival of colours and fun. It falls in the month of March. Holi marks the advent of spring and the end of winter.

Like many Indian festivals, Holi has its origin in ancient mythological story. Once there was a young prince named Prahalad. He was the son of demon king Hiranayakashyap. He was very cruel. His subjects were terror-stricken due to his CRUELTIES. He asked his subjects to worship him instead of God. His son Prahalad was a great worshipper of Lord Vishnu. His father, the demon king did not like this. He revolted against his father’s order. Holika, the king’s sister had a blessing that she could not be burnt in fire. So the king asked his sister to burn Prahalad. So, she took Prahalad in her lap and sat in fire. The fire burned Holika but Prahalad escaped unhurt. Hiranayakashyap was tore into pieces by Lord Vishnu. This festival is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. Prahalad was the symbol of good while Hiranayakashyap was an embodiment of evil.

Holi also marks the beginning of harvest season. So new ears of corns are roasted in the fire and distributed among friends and relatives. A night before Holi, a big bonfire is lit. Women offer prayers and sweets in the fire. People pray for a healthy and peaceful year. On the Holi day people smear ashes of this fire on their foreheads to PAY respect for the fire. Then they start the colourful Holi. They move house to house and smear gulal on one another. They splash colour water to each other. Children make great fun. They play pranks and pour colour on everybody. They fill coloured water in balloons and syringes and splash on the passers-by. Everything is drenched in colour.

People play and dance with joy. They beat drum and sing and dance in groups. They move street to street. They meet and greet each other in the evening. Gujias, a special recipe, is SERVED to all the visitors and guests. There is a RITUAL to mix bhang, a type of plant paste, in sweet drinks. Its drink causes merriment. But the dark side of the festival is that many people misbehave with women and others in the guise of playing pranks. Sometimes such incidences take serious turn. There are incidences of violence and killings. Also, people use chemicals, MUDDY flush and paints on one another. It causes skin problems and eye troubles to many people. Many people have to lose their eyesight for ever.

Holi gives us the message to do well in life. It teaches us to live in peace. So, we should not spoil the spirit of the Holi. We should avoid the evil practices associated with Holi. Only then the sanctity of the festival can be maintained...

Answer»

Answer:

Explanation:

Maganlal was  an old man. No one really KNEW his age. He was a very wise man and often ADVISED villagers on issues affecting them. One day he decided to spend his life savings to purchase a house. He bought an old villa near the forest. People told him it was haunted he  was as brave as a lion.

For centuries there were tales about ghosts inhabiting the old villa in the forest. The villa had been built a century ago. The villa had been passed down from generation to generation. One day, a young boy aged 12 had committed suicide near the house.

Stories of ghosts started spreading. Some people said that when it was foggy, one could see a boy walking through the WOODS. Several years later, an old lady DIED at the house. The ghost stories spread like bush fire. People said that the house was haunted by ghosts. Nobody wanted to live in the house and it was abandoned for several years.

Maganlal had heard the stories, however he did not believe in ghosts. To his shock, the villa was the residence of ghosts. He could hear doors opening and shutting He could also hear footsteps although no one was in the house except him.He decided that he had had enough with the ghosts.

The ghosts of the villa tried to scare Maganlal. They flickered the lights  and played  tricks on him.Maganlal laughed and enjoyed the fun. He knew that they could not harm him in any way. The defeated ghosts LEFT the villa never to return.

I want information about ham radio to give a speech in class

Answer»

Answer:

Explanation:

A ham radio operator can carry on experiments with various communication equipment and systems going deeper into the science of electronics (Learning by Doing) and at the same time PROVIDE great service to the people in general worldwide by way of organizing on-the-air emergency medical traffic, establishing emergency communication NETWORK during natural calamities like FLOOD, cyclone, storm, earthquake or any other disaster. Amateur Radio stations act as the ‘SECOND LINE’ of communication when existing public or government communication LINKS fail to act. life-saving facet of amateur radio was demonstrated in India with valuable public service activities during a Post & Telegraph Strike in 1960, when radio amateurs passed important messages for the public.

In September 1979, during the flash floods at Morvi due to the Machhu dam burst in Gujarat, more than a dozen amateur radio stations of western India activated emergency radio stations to pro-relief agencies, government officials and victims of the disaster in the cities of Rajkot, Baroda, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

Similar services were rendered by hams during the cyclonic storms in Saurashtra and a number of times in Andhra Pradesh-a state prone to cyclonic storms following weather disturbances over the Bay of Bengal.

What is HAM Radio?

“Ham: a poor operator. A ‘plug’.” That’s the definition of the word given in G. M. DODGE’s The Telegraph Instructor even before radio. The definition has never changed in wire telegraphy. The first wireless operators were landline telegraphers who left their offices to go to sea or to man the coastal stations. They brought with them their language and much of the tradition of their older profession. In those early days, spark was king and every station occupied the same wavelength–or, more accurately perhaps, every station occupied the whole spectrum with its broad spark signal

Describe the author's journey to the end of the earth

Answer»

Answer:

JOURNEY TO THE END OF THE EARTH

Points to Remember

Summary

The writer visited Antarctica, the coldest, driest and windiest continent in the world, aboard the Russian research vessel, Akademik Shokalskiy.

The journey, beginning at Chennai, passed through many areas, geographical, legal, ecological and temporal.

The writer’s first reaction to the continent was of relief, followed by wonder at its vastness, seclusion and geological history.

Part of History

Before human evolution, Antarctica was part of a huge tropical landmass called the Gondwana land, which flourished 500 million years ago.

Biological (flora and fauna), geological (changing continents) and geographical (climatic)changes occurred and Antarctica separated and moved away evolving into what it is today.

A visit to Antarctica gave the writer a deeper understanding of fold mountains, the earth’s history, ecology and environment.

The writer felt unsettled in two weeks time not only because she came from a much hotter place, but also because all features of human CIVILIZATION were absent from an already desolate landscape.

The long summers, the silence broken occasionally by cracking ice sheets and avalanches, the blue whales and ice bergs, all contribute to an ecological implication that the future for humans isn’t good.

Human Impact

Humans, who are known to have existed for a mere 12000 years, have caused tremendous impact and played havoc with nature.

Population explosion, putting a strain on available resources, carbon emissions, fossil fuels and global warming have all resulted in climatic and ecological imbalances that have also affected Antarctica.

Antarctica, though unpopulated, has been affected and there are concerns for its half a million year old carbon records trapped under its ice sheets.

The ‘Students on Ice’ programme, an initiative of Canadian adventure educator, Geoff Green TAKES students on expeditions to Antarctica, to CREATE awareness in them, the future policy makers.

The stark proof of global warming and environmental threats helps students attain an understanding of ecosystems and biodiversity of our planet.

An amazing display of the food chain of the Southern Ocean helps in the understanding that further depletion of the ozone layer, will set off a chain reaction that will affect the global carbon cycle.

The SIMPLE truth is, take care of the small things and the bigger ones will automatically be taken care of.

Walk on The Ocean

Before their return, the writer got an opportunity to walk on the ocean at 65.55 degrees south, which made her realize that she was walking on 180 meters of ocean water, a rich kaleidoscope of life.

Reaching home, she wondered whether Antarctica would ever be warm again, how much difference a million years can MAKE and, that each day makes a difference.

Plese give me essay on 250 words of save fuel please

Answer»

Answer:

Fuel shortages keep occurring in the world from time to time. Most countries have to import fuel to meet their needs. The countries which export fuel are the OPEC nations (those in the Middle East) VENEZUELA, Russia, etc. Apart from shortages, the price of fuels also fluctuates wildly depending on availability. In India and the US, fuel is sold at subsidized RATES. They are heavily dependent on OPEC nations for supply. OPEC nations reduce fuel production to shore up their profits whenever supply exceeds demand and prices fall.

On such occasions, oil dependent countries are badly affected. In 2008, a similar scenario AROSE and prices shot up so much that it created a panic. Long queues were seen outside petrol bunks and there were fewer vehicles on the roads because there was no fuel to tank up on. In a way it was a good thing because there was less pollution and traffic jams.

But the real danger in CONSUMING fuel thoughtlessly is that it dries up the earth’s resources. Fossil fuels like coal and oil and gas are non-renewable resources. In other words, increasing usage depletes their presence within the earth. So there will come a time when they will no longer be available. The answer is to develop alternative and renewable sources.

This is why many countries have turned to ethanol, a kind of fuel which is made from corn kernels. Another option is to use hybrid cars which run both on gas and electricity. Big gas-guzzling vehicles like Hummers and SUVs should be exchanged for smaller, fuel-efficient cars. Electric cars like the Indian Reva are also good options.

Fuels like petrol and diesel are also not clean fuels. They cause pollution and increase C02 emissions. This leads to global warming which is one of the biggest challenges the earth is FACING. Saving fuel for the future is therefore an urgent necessity.
