With too many people chasing too few services or products in the country, the quality of life is affected considerably in our country. Industrialization has resulted in tremendous changes in the life-style of the people in the developed countries. Though a small percentage of the people in our country have a life-style that matches the western standards, a majority of the population are still below the poverty line because of unemployment and underemployment resulting from population explosion. If the living stands of the majority of INDIANS are to improve, everyone should ADOPT the small family norm.

दूरदर्शन का अर्थ- दूरदर्शन दो शब्दों से मिलकर बना है- दूर और दर्शन। इसका अर्थ है- दूर की वस्तु, व्यक्ति दृश्य आदि के दर्शन करना, उन्हें देखना। यह एक ऐसा उपकरण है जिसकी सहायता से आप अपने कमरे में बैठकर गीत, समाचार आदि सुन सकते हैं और गाने वाले तथा समाचार सुनाने वाले को भी देख सकते हें।

दूरदर्शन का आविष्कार- दूरदर्शन का आविष्कार सन 1925 ई. में ब्रिटेन के एक प्रसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक ने किया था। उसका नाम था जान बेयर्ड। तब से देश विदेशों में इसका खूब प्रयोग हो रहा है। भारत में दूरदर्शन का प्रचार और प्रयोग बहुत बाद में हुआ है। प्रारम्भ में तो बड़े बड़े नगरों के लोगों तक ही वह सीमित था। अब तो यह छोटे छोटे गाँवों में भी पहुँच गया है।

दूरदर्शन के लाभ- दूरदर्शन के बहुत लाभ हैं। इससे हम घर बैठे बैठे देश विदेश के समाचार सुन सकते हैं और समाचार सुनाने वाले को प्रत्यक्ष देख भी सकते हैं। विश्व के चाहे किसी भी कोने में कोई मैच हो रहा हो, उसे भी हम घर में बैठे बैठे ज्यों का त्यों देख सकते हैं।
