1.

Define acids. Explain two chemical properties of an acid and write the chemical equation for one example of each property.

Answer»

Solution :Acids are COMPOUNDS, which give `H^(+)` ions in their aqueous solutions. Chemical Properties :
(i) Acids react with bases to form salt and water (Neutralisation reaction).
`HCl + NaOH RARR NaCl + H_(2)O`
(ii) Dilute acids react with METALS to release `H_(2)` gas.
`ZN + 2HCl(aq) rarr ZnCl_(2)+ H_(2)`
