Define the freezing point. Why the freezing point of a solvent gets lowered on dissolving a non-volatile solute into it? |
|
Answer» Freezing point of a solution is defined as the temperature at which the vapour pressure of its liquid phase becomes equal to the vapour pressure of its solid phase.when a non volatile solute is added to a volatile solvent its vapour pressure decreases and it would become equal to that of solid solvent at lower temperature.Hence its freezing point gets depressed. |
