1.

Differentiatebetween short -circuitingand overloading .

Answer»

Solution :Short -ciruiting: If the plasticinsulation of thelivewires come in neutralwire getseither directlyor via a conductingwire . Thisthouchingof the live wire and neutral wire is known as short -circuiting .
In this case , the resistance of the circuit becomes almostzero. This results in the flow oflarge currentin the circuit . This heats up wiredangerously and may lead to FIRE.
Overloading: The currentflowingin dometic wiringat a particular time depends on the powereletrical appliances of high POWER ratinge.g., electric iron , water heater , air- CONDITIONER , etc are switched on at the sametimetheydraw an extermelylargecurrent from the circuit . Thisis CALLED overloading .
Thereforethe copper /aluminium wireof householdwiringget HEATED to a veryhightemperature . Thiscan lead to fire.
