Answer» In the first decade of the twentieth century a ‘Go East Movement’ became popular.In 1907-08 some 300 Vietnamese students went to Japan to acquire moderneducation with intentions to drive out the French from Vietnam and overthrowthe puppet emperor to re-establish the Nguyen dynasty that had been deposed bythe French. Vietnamese students established a branch of the Restoration Societyin Tokyo to attain the same objective but after 1908, the Japanese Ministry ofInterior clamped down on them. As a result, many students were exiled and sentback to China and Thailand.
