Explain the two sets of reason why power sharing is desirable |
|
Answer» The two major reasons why power sharing is desirable in democracy are :- 1) PRUDENTIAL = It helps reduce the possibility of conflict as it ensures that the voice of all communities in a democracy is heard by the government. As social conflict leads to political instability, power sharing is a good way of ensuring stability in political order. In democracies, both majority and minority have the sovereign freedom to live together.2) MORAL = Power sharing is the very spirit of democracy. In democracies, the power is shared between those who are affected by its exercise and those who have to live by its effects. In a democratic society, power is always shared in some way or the other. A legitimate government is one wherein, citizens through participation can obtain a stake in the system.
