(i) Largest number is 65

Given largest number is 65.

We know that 2m, m2 – 1, m2 + 1 form a

Pythagorean triplet.

let m2 + 1 = 65

m2 = 65 – 1

m2 = 64

m2 = 8 × 8

m = 8

∴ 2m = 2 × 8 = 16

m2 – 1 = 64 – 1 = 63

∴ The required Pythagorean triplet is (16, 63, 65)

(ii) Smallest number is 10

We know that (2m, m2 – 1, m2 + 1) form a

Pythagorean triplet.

Given smallest number is 10

let 2m = 10

m = 102

m = 5

m2 + 1 = 52 + 1 = 25 + 1 = 26

m2 – 1 = 52 – 1 = 25 – 1 = 24

∴ The required Pythagorean triplet is (10, 24, 26)
