Find the equation of the line passing through the points (2, 2) and (4, – 6).

Answer»

Equation of a line in two point form is

y − y1 = \(\frac{y_2 − y_1}{x_2 − x_1}\) (x − x1) …(i)

Given, x1 = 2, x2 = 4, y1 = 2, y2 = – 6

⇒ y − 2 = \(\frac{-6 − 2}{4 − 2}\) (x − 2)

⇒ y – 2 = – 4 (x – 2)

⇒ 4x + y – 10 = 0, is the required equation of the line.
