1.

Find the y-intercept of the line whose slope is 4 and which has x-intercept 5.

Answer»

Given, slope = 4, x-intercept = 5

Since the x-intercept of the line is 5, it passes through (5, 0).

Equation of the line in slope point form is y – y = m(x – x )

Equation of the required line is

y – 0 = 4(x – 5)

y = 4x – 20

4x – y = 20

4x/20 - y/20 = 1

x/5 + y/(-20) = 1

This equation is of the form x/a + y/b = 1

where x-intercept = b, y-intercept = -20
